Rewind – A Look Back at HireRight’s Favorite Blogs of 2021

In 2020, the pandemic took everyone by surprise, and many businesses had to pivot quickly to address virtual hiring, a newly remote workforce, and a seemingly never-ending series of changes and surprises. By 2021, we were quickly adapting to these remote or hybrid work environments, and HR teams were quickly adjusting to this new normal.

This year, our blog covered a wide range of topics, from getting to know our team members and customers across the globe, our Benchmark reports, and adapting to the new era of work. Here is a look at some of our favorite blog posts from the past year.

HireRight Around the Globe

This year, we took a trip around the world as part of our “Behind the Screens” series to see how our teams handle background screening in region – and the challenges our customers face in different areas around the world.

HireRight’s General Manager of Latin America Ryan Christensen has been with HireRight for over 12 years and knows the background screening market in LATAM. He has carefully built a team in Latin America the also bring years of expertise to the table. This year, he took us #BehindTheScreens to show how Bringing the Right People Together Across Latin America was imperative to serving our customers in the region. Then, we spoke with Alfredo Fuentes and Guillermo Saldierna, two of our account managers in Latin America, to Meet the HireRight Team in Latin America. They shared their perspectives on background screening in the region, how it has changed over the years, and how HireRight can connect and serve customers in Latin America.

We then took a trip to Eastern Europe to talk to two members of the verifications team about Embracing Careers in Background Screening in Poland + Estonia. Raquel Yhap and Paulina Chrobak are part of the teams that research information as part of a candidate’s background screening process, or, as Raquel puts it, “detective work.” Our interviews with them gave us insights on working in research supporting background screening requests across the globe, as well as their own career journeys.

Adapting to the New Era of Work

In 2020, and then again in 2021, we had to adapt and change how we approached our workforce. COVID has, of course, created many challenges around hiring and screening potential employees. There is confusion around vaccines and how to plan your workforce around possible federal compliance. Many employers need to know if their candidates are medically or physically fit to perform the job-related duties. We outline Why Employers Should Consider Using Post-Offer Medical Questionnaires and point them to several solutions to fit their specific needs, including screening employees for COVID vaccinations. Additionally, as some organizations have struggled to navigate drug testing candidates and employees this year, we provided some guidance with our blog on Marijuana + COVID-19 Concerns in the Workplace: How to Effectively Navigate Drug Testing.

Later in the year, things became even more confusing for U.S. employers as federal mandates were declared stating that many employees needed to be vaccinated against the COVID virus. Our blog Understanding COVID Vaccine Mandates – And Four Steps Employers Can Take To Prepare For Compliance sheds some light on managing COVID risk in the workplace.

The 2021 HireRight Global Benchmark Report

July just might be our favorite month here at HireRight. Why? July is when we release our annual Global Benchmark Report! This year, we surveyed over 3,000 HR professionals across the world to get their input on the state of talent acquisition and background screening. For an overview,  check out our blog from HireRight President & CEO Guy Abramo about this year’s report and the state of screening in 2021.

We understand how background screening practices and talent acquisition strategies can vary from region to region, and we broke that down for our readers in a series of related blog posts. You can learn about the different survey responses in North America, EMEA, India, APAC, and Latin America from this year’s Global Benchmark Report.

Additionally, we took a closer look at different verticals this year. We explore how Healthcare HR professionals utilize background screening in the U.S. Healthcare & Life Sciences Industry Spotlight. Likewise, we surveyed transportation-focused HR teams and shared the results in our U.S. Transportation Industry Spotlight.

Putting the Spotlight On Our Team Members

Like many of you, HireRight teams had to adapt to an almost entirely remote workforce in 2020, which continued into 2021. In turn, we kicked off our #LIfeAtHireRight blog series. These posts provide insights on what it is like to work at HireRight and hear from our team members globally. This year our affinity groups grew and flourished, despite not having the ability to meet face to face.

We began with a profile on Account Manager Kevin Ho, Our 2020 #CustomerFirst Award Winner. In May, we featured Zeena Wright, our BLM Affinity group president. Zeena shared with us her career journey as a data expert and her experiences advocating for the BLM community at HireRight. Soon after, HireRight celebrated PRIDE month in June. We spoke with Lindsay Watts and Rob Reid, co-presidents of our PRIDE affinity group. They shared how they celebrate our LGBTQ+ community at HireRight. Additionally, we spoke with other team members about the Importance of PRIDE at HireRight; experiences shared in their own words. Most recently, we featured Business Development Lead Ali Rutledge, who shared what it’s like to be part of the team in Australia.
